How in the world can any sane company produce a program whereby you sign
in (who knows where but somehow it signed itself in with my Hotmail
address) then provide no means to sign yourself out? Guess this is a sign
of things to come.....get something for free then realize the price was
way too high. And is this even the correct newsgroup to post for Windows
LIve Writer?

There is no newsgroup for Windows Live Writer.
Why are you trying to log out of Live Writer? It isn't connected until you click
"post" and it uploads to your blog or until you perform any other online action
such as "recent posts" or "refresh theme" from your blog.
When you configure Live Writer, you get to define the blog you wish to use -
existing - or you are walked through creating one on Spaces for Windows Live
based on your LiveID (Hotmail address or other). If the only blog set up is a
Spaces for Windows Live account, that's what will appear in the upper right of
the toolbar. You aren't actually signed in via WLW at that point, though, it is
simply the default blog. You cannot remove the default blog until you add
another and make it the default.

Are there any good web forums anyone can recommend?

I was signed in before I had inputed a single character!
I signed out of my Hotmail account and wasn't using Windows Live Mail. (I
never use Windows Live Mail at the present.) I did have Windows Live
Messenger running but that was running a different account than the one it
signed me in with. Its like it knew from before since I used to use
Windows Live Mail with the same account.

Ah...I kind of thought that might be the issue. Fair enough - I'll add
another account then I delete the previous one.

It was quiet some time back, but seems to have picked up somewhat.
